With stadium-like lighting to match their energy and antics on stage, Fun. brought down the Kool Haus on April 25th. Seamlessly amalgamating a setlist of ballads and dynamic power pop tracks into a setlist that kept everyone moving, the three-piece rock band proved themselves to be natural performers and creating a feeling of community amongst all concert-goers.
Making an effortless transition from album to live show, the addition of musicians Will Noon (drums), Nate Harold (bass), and Emily Moore (keys/guitar) only aided in the development of the friendly atmosphere. As much as it was a live performance, it evoked the warmth of listening to their record in your basement with a few close friends. With the trumpet being passed between backing musicians, and Emily’s feminine touch to the vocals, the songs almost mirrored their recorded counterparts. Using the, often criticized, auto tuned riffs minimally and holding notes longer than what seems possible, only encouraged the singing-along of the audience more. Elogating verses in The Gambler, and coordinating the audience to become a gospel choir on a few tracks surprised many in attendance as to the enthusiasm of their fanbase, and that feeling was reciprocated with their unrehearsed stage banter; nicknaming the city “The ‘Ront”, and apologizing for prior issues with ticket and venue changes. Thanking the showgoers endlessly for their inability to complete their encore due to the cheering and excitement, this chart-topping band left all in attendance feeling as though they had matching frienship bracelets with everyone else in the room, and eagerly awaiting the next visit from their newfound friends, Nate, Jack, and Andrew.
